Egg Donation Couseling Services

Psychological services play a vital role in both the donor and intended parents process at EFS. In addition to an initial session, we provide ongoing support our donors and intended parents throughout the decision making and IVF donor cycle.

For Intended Parents

Conceiving a baby through egg donation is clearly an emotionally challenging experience. It is our belief that it is crucial to have a professional psychotherapeutic counselor available to assist our intended parents through this process. Our experience confirms that counselors help to make this process a positive experience, offering objective, professional opinions, insight and facilitating constructive discussions on the many short and long-term ramifications couples will likely face when choosing to build their family through egg donation.

Counselors can help them explore and evaluate important issues such as:

  • Whether and/or how to discuss this decision with friends and family, as well as related privacy issues
  • Understanding the role genetics plays in one’s personality, values, goals, etc.
  • Parenting a child biologically but not genetically related to one of the parents, and how that may impact family dynamics
  • If, what, and when to tell a child / children about their special beginnings

For Potential Egg Donors

Donating eggs requires you to confront complex ethical, emotional and social issues. Each potential EFS egg donor candidate, participates in a minimum of a one hour, individual, comprehensive session conducted by an experienced licensed psychotherapist or psychologist. This includes an examination of their mental status, as well as family history, personal background, and interests and a discussion of her life circumstances and support systems. Potential egg donors are assessed for their emotional and psychological suitability and their ability to fulfill the complex requirements of egg donation

During the session the young woman has the opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns and discuss. her expectations of this process, the motivation for becoming an egg donor with EFS and explore the emotional, moral, ethical and social issues. We feel is essential PRIOR to their acceptance as an EFS egg donor that the candidate understands and is comfortable with the potential personal short and long term implication that could result from their participation. Our goal is to assist each potential candidate determine whether their involvement in such a profound, life-changing experience is absolutely right for them.
